Spacesaver Corporation was founded in 1972 by Theodore W. Batterman.
At that time, the firm had merely seven employees and only 10,000 square feet of manufacturing space in an old barn.
Batterman recognized that space, energy conservation and productivity was the triple threat to industries. Increases of land, building and energy costs, coupled with productivity decline enabled him to create a new industry that helped solve those issues.
Today, Spacesaver Corporation now has two facilities in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin that operates in over 358,000 square feet and employs over 600 of people. Since 1972, Spacesaver has experienced several milestones:
1985
Batterman was chosen Wisconsin Small Businessperson of the Year by the Small Business Administration.
May, 1988
The company announced its entry into the steel shelving business with the completion of a state-of-the-art automated metal-fabrication facility for 4-post steel shelving.
October, 1988
Spacesaver acquired the Johl Library Shelving line of cantilever design steel shelving from Allsteel, Canada, Ltd.
July, 1998
Spacesaver was acquired by KI (Krueger International, Inc.). Spacesaver continues to operate as a standalone division and has maintained its distribution channel separate from KI.
October, 1999
Spacesaver Corporation became the first mobile storage systems manufacturer in the United States to achieve ISO 9001 certification.
september, 2006
Spacesaver acquired DSM Law Enforcement Products, Inc. to expand its product offerings to the public safety marketplace.
October, 2007
Spacesaver finalized the acquisition of the Electric Movable Base and High Bay Racking product lines from Leggett and Platt. This acquisition allowed Spacesaver to engineer and produce the XTend Mobile High Bay storage system.
